Kate has started making statements that sound a lot like coded speak for, “We’re staying together for the good of the show.” Not for the kids, but for the show that sped up what seems like the end of the marriage. I’m predicting that their marriage doesn’t last more than a year or two after the end of their show. And their show will end. TLC has already replaced them with another family with two sets of twins and a set of sextuplets. And the mom isn’t a harpie and the dad goes to work at a real job.

America wants its supersized families to be wholesome after all.

One week after Us Weekly first broke the news that Jon & Kate Plus 8 dad Jon Gosselin was caught with another woman, his wife, Kate Gosselin, opens up for the first time.

“It’s one of those things that we’re just handling privately,” Kate said on Wednesday’s taping of The Rachael Ray Show. “We’re just taking it one step at a time and I’m trying to walk through it.”

She added: “The focus remains on our kids. It has always been there and will continue to be there. One day at a time, like we’ve always done. One hour at a time, one minute at a time, and my life’s been like that.”

Her interview with Rachael Ray — which will air on Tuesday — came the same day Us Weekly’s current issue (on newsstands now) revealed that five people close to the situation confirmed that Jon, 32, has been having an affair with third-grade school teacher Deanna Hummel.

“It’s definitely another learning experience,” Kate said about the recent media attention. “I look at life through the eyes of my kids in that I’ve always said life experiences… I feel like you can learn something from every situation and I am absolutely learning a lot from this.”

After Jon and Deanna met in mid-January at Chill Lounge in Reading, Pennsylvania (they sent each other $3 shots), Deanna’s brother Jason Hummel told Us that Jon — who has twins, 8, and sextuplets, 5 — began relentlessly pursuing his sister. By mid-February, he was coming over to their Reading house.

pretty much stay locked away like two teenagers. It was weird. He’s a grown man.”)

Kate said that she didn’t see it coming.

“Certainly none of this could have been predicted,” she said. “Now going into our fifth season, we have stepped back and realized that it is part of this process, and I always say there’s really never any going back. We just need to go forward. That is my new saying — just keep on marching through this. Just doing what we need to.”

Instead of focusing on the news — which includes Jon and Deanna spending time together while Kate was traveling in late April — of her husband’s three-month long affair, she said she is putting her attention on her eight children.

“I know that I’m continuing on as I am the best mom I know how to be and that’s really where my focus is,” Kate said. “I really try not to let any of that stuff that comes with it get to me.”

As for comments that Kate is combative (she once chastised her husband for breathing on their TLC reality show), she made no apologies.

“Just to put it out there, I am who I am,” she said. “I do not care how you see me. Call me crazy, but it’s out there because I am not perfect and I will never boast that I’m perfect. Everyone makes mistakes.”

Jon & Kate Plus 8 star Kate Gosselin has admitted that her husband Jon’s drunken rendezvous at a Pennsylvania bar with 23-year-old teacher Deanna Hummel — has put strain on their nine-year marriage.

“Jon’s poor judgment and irresponsible behavior has also without a doubt caused some added tension and stress between the two of us,” she recently told Entertainment Weekly

The EW interview was conducted before Us Weekly’s cover story broke last night, a story that confirmed Jon and Deanna’s three-month affair (in the interview, Jon also denied he was having an affair). In the new Us Weekly, Deanna’s brother and roommate, Jason, went on the record about the liaison. TLC refused comment to Us Weekly on Monday, as did Deanna.

As for Deanna’s accusations today against her brother for being “very shady” and “having no job” (Jon doesn’t have a real job either. He lives off of those kids.) and a “criminal background,” Jason Hummel — a full-time student at Reading Area Community College – was candid about his history in the new issue of Us Weekly. “I have a bad past and I’m not proud of it,” he told the magazine. “I was selling drugs. I didn’t get a jail sentence, I’m on probation. When I made my mistake, I was the same age as my sister is now, making her mistake. Hopefully she can learn from it.” (He is 29, Deanna is 23). He also told Us Weekly, “[Deanna’s] worried about her career and reputation…I think she feels partly hurt by him trying to deny it, and partly like an idiot for not realizing what was going on sooner.”

In the new Us Weekly (on newsstands now), Jason detailed the reckless way Jon conducted the affair, including trips to the Reading, Pennsylvania, home he shares with his sister. On April 26 – while Kate Gosselin was traveling – Jon had Deanna over to sunbathe in his family’s front lawn. This was just seven days after they had first been photographed together at Legends Lounge at 2 a.m. — where Jon was photographed without his wedding band.

In the EW interview, Jon admits he has learned a valuable lesson through everything.

“It makes us think twice about how we spend our time in public,” he said. (That translates to, “I won’t take my girlfriends out in public next time.”)

Jon and Kate — who earn an estimated $50,000 and $75,000 an episode — said they have no plans to address Jon’s indiscretions directly on their TLC show (a new season kicks off May 25).
(But I bet she will be writing a book about it sooner or later.

But Kate added, “I think we will address the bigger picture, regarding the very public focus on our family and the stress it’s caused in our relationship.”

Kate must not be too worried, she is still out on her book tour. The book tour that has kept the “stay at home” mother away from her eight kids so much. The tour is so extensive that when there was criticism the publisher removed tour dates from their website.
